The Men's 7's closed their home account for the 2021-22 season (P11, W9, L2) with a splendid 7-1 victory over Brentwood. The result was particularly pleasing as we had narrowly lost the reverse fixture just before Xmas and I think demonstrates the all round progress the team has made.
With the sun in our eyes in the first half, we started brightly but struggled to convert a few early short corners and suddenly found ourselves 0-1 down with a Brentwood attack and a very strange deflection from my good-self that typically found it's way into the path of the Brentwood forward - why does that always happen? Anyway, the team rallied and levelled just before half-time which concluded a half of what we felt was ours on possession and position - just level on goals.
Cue Captain's team talk.
We gave away only 1 short corner second half, scored 6 unanswered goals and played some damn good hockey - even if I do say so myself.
Max Harrison had another strong performance, Ari Akanno and Rob Segal delivered their usual brick wall defence - in fact the whole team played very well - but were all still outplayed by young Devan Mahalingham who basically had an absolute worldy and was voted MOM at teas.
His Dad, Sankar (GK), collected DoD for a comical fall which was all about the attention - Look at me! Look at me! - I'm falling over - you get the picture.
Our season finishes with a 16.00 pb at Havering next week - but what a pleasure it was to play such excellent hockey during our home finale and what I said at half time, well, that will just have to remain a secret.
Thanks also to Donka and Simon for umpiring.
