After weeks of struggling to score many goals, this week turned into a bit of a goal-fest.
There was very little to do in defence - just as well as we had no goalie - and lots of chances for all our forwards to get their names on the score sheet. There was some post-match confusion about the score, 10-0, versus the number of goals claimed, but we settled on: Sienna 4, Jemimah 3, Ilayda 1, Rach 1 and Maria 1.
I do want to make mention of the very splendid assists from other team members though. Holly was on sparkling form and selflessly set up a number of goals for her team mates; long flat crosses into the D as well as some beautiful little slips inside the D. Not forgetting the rocketing strike from stalwart Susy H on the left flank. The goalie managed to save it but the rebound came up nicely for Rach to bat into the net. Impressive team work. (Of course we had rehearsed this move in training ;)
A special mention for Susy, who despite a croaky voice - the unexpected result of a sponsored silence during the previous 24 hours - went on to complete a half-marathon the morning afterwards. (Needless to say, the rest of the team were more impressed by her successful completion of the first half of the challenge.)
We deployed the two screens formation again this week, to help cope with the lack of goalie. There is still work to do to get it to work smoothly, and avoid confusion, but we are getting there. Very little got through to me as the last line of defence, especially in the second half, so it must have worked increasingly well.
So, good performances all round, though it has to be said that S & B were suffering from losing many experienced players at the end of last season, and were therefore unable to put us under much pressure.
MoM votes were fairly well spread but Sienna and Holly came out on top. Well done to them and to us all for our win.
