The club was very fortunate to be chosen as a training site for the 2012 Olympics. The pitches installed through the Olympic Development Authority at the time have survived much longer than originally anticipated and are a testament to the quality of the surface and their installation. We had a number of options regarding their disposal. We were not prepared to consign them to landfill or any other environmentally unfriendly procedure. The good news is that a club in Tanzania and another club in Guyana will be able to use both pitches.
The Sikh Union Club, based in Moshi, Tanzania currently play their hockey on a mud surface (see the picture). Pitch 1 is on its way to Moshi where it will be reinstalled.
Pitch 2 will be collected next week and reinstalled at Old Fort YMCA Hockey Club in Georgetown, Guyana. The pitches we have enjoyed will now continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
