The U18G finished their season on a high this weekend with victory in the T2 Plate Final.
The girls faced Lichfield HC in the final Sunday morning at Nottingham Hockey Centre and started brightly pressing them deep into their own 23. A turnover from the opposition in their circle was pounced upon by Elis who dispatched a fierce strike into the bottom corner. Straight from the restart the girls forced Lichfield back and the resulting short corner saw Amelia cooly slot a drag flick into the top corner. The girls kept the pressure on looking for a third but couldn’t quite find the final ball. The defence dealt well with the Lichfield attack, limiting them to a couple of half chances and a short corner. Halftime saw the opposition make some tactical changes and they started brightly with long aerials causing some problems. The girls soon put the pressure back on and a couple of chances went begging with the final touch just missing and they were soon to rue the missed opportunities when a Lichfield forward found herself free in the D and a deft deflection past Sophie in goal put them back in the game at 2-1. The game then became a bit scrappy with a flurry of green cards for both sides but the girls kept their nerve and the final whistle saw them take the victory. A big thanks to all the players and parents for a great season, a great bunch of girls who thoroughly deserved their success.
