Congratulations to East who emerged winners after some exciting matches on day 2 of the Masters.
Thankfully it was not as hot as on Saturday. In the 10.00 fixtures North West beat South East 1-0 with a goal from Fiona Head whilst West and Midlands played out a 0-0 draw.
South Central and East then also drew 0-0 as did overnight leaders Yorkshire & North East against London to drop their first points.
Midlands continued their good form on Sunday after a disappointing Saturday with a 1-0 win against South East with Rachel Eastland scoring and London drew 2-2 with North West. Sarah Pusey scored twice for London and Lynne Pyman and Sarah Impey netted for North West.
A depleted West drew 0-0 against South Central who defended well all tournament but struggled to score whilst East held off Yorkshire & North East and took their chance to score and won the match 1-0. Annette Thorpe scored the winner.
In the penultimate fixtures North West won 1-0 (Sarah Impey scoring again) against South Central and Midlands won again beating London 1-0 through a goal from Kate Cullotty.
There was everything to play for as Yorkshire & North East faced West and South East lined up against East. A win for Y & NE would give them the title. A win for West would take them above North West for third. East needed to win and for Y & NE to drop points.
Final scores Y & NE 0 - 0 West and South East 0 - 2 East. Both Yorkshire & North East and West played very well but neither could break the deadlock. Goals from captain Sharon Holt and Jane Peggs secured the points for East and the title with East keeper Dawn Forshaw not conceding all tournament. Yorkshire & North East finished runners up and North West came third. Sheriden Wall presented the medals and the silver salva.
The full results and scorers details are attached.
The tournament was played in a great spirit and well done everyone who took part. As Paul said you are always welcome at Old Loughts.
Huge thanks to Jane as tournament organiser and her team of volunteers who ensured that everything ran smoothly. Thank you also to Andy and his team of umpires and to the East Umpires Development association. The full list of volunteers and umpires is in the programme.
