India & Tash Seal The Win for Loughts.

Old Loughtonians Women’s 1s put in a strong performance to overcome a determined Spencer side and secure another vital win as the season enters the business end. Loughts continue to lie in an impressive third place in the England Hockey Women’s Conference East with only three games now remaining.
The first half saw Old Loughts control large periods of play but just failed to take the opportunities that fell to them. Maddy Newlyn and Hannah Bloy both dribbling dangerously into the D but were just unable to find the supporting attackers for the crucial final touch.
Spencer won a number of penalty corners but Phoebe Menear in the Loughts goal thwarted a variety of routines with some commanding keeping.
In the third quarter Loughts took control of the game with India Blake driving into the D and managing to force the ball home with nine minutes gone. The lead was then doubled in the final minute of the quarter from Loughts first penalty corner of the game as the ball broke free to Tash Patient who swept the ball home with panache.
Spencer threatened to pull a goal back as the game entered the final quarter even pulling their keeper to try and force a change in fortunes. However Loughts defended superbly and Menear continued to keep them at bay as the game concluded.
A challenging trip to league leaders Guildford awaits Loughts next Saturday.
