Old Loughtonians Women’s 1s made it 3 wins in the last 4 games with a closely fought 1-0 victory over Sevenoaks W2s in the England Hockey Women’s Conference East.

Lucy Price netted her first goal of the season with a deft finish from close range following a sweeping Loughts move after only 9 minutes of the first quarter which ultimately proved to be the winning goal.

Sevenoaks with a young pacy side were dangerous on the break and almost equalised in the second quarter as a fine run and shot found the far post but deflected away.

With only a minute of the first half remaining Sevenoaks broke clear on goal and although Phoebe Menear in the Loughts goal forced the attacker wide her shot looked to be heading for the top corner before Rori Fletcher intervened to somehow claw the ball away with her extended stick above her head.

Loughts had chances to extend their lead with Maddy Newlyn and Adele Sammons both going close. However Player of the Match Phoebe Menear had to be at her best to repel a number of opportunities for Sevenoaks to level the game.

As a scrappy fourth quarter drew to a close Loughts won a couple of penalty corners which saw out time and left Old Loughts with the win and another vital three points.

Next week Loughts have a late pushback away at bottom side East London where they will look to cement their place in mid table.
