Old Loughtonians Women’s 2s produced an outstanding display to almost end the East Division 1 South league leaders, Bedford W2s, unbeaten record.

Loughts played with an intensity from the outset that troubled the Bedford backline. Kareena Myers and Chloe Stack used their pace in attack to create a number of early opportunities and a couple of penalty corners.

Zoe Wright drove Loughts forward with her skillful excursions from the back, Miranda Baldwin controlled the middle of the park and wing backs Kim Grave and Olivia Ross-Bell advanced at every opportunity.

Four minutes before the break Loughts took the lead as Chloe Stack’s fierce penalty corner strike was deflected home via a defender’s stick.

The second half was a real battle between two quality sides with chances at both ends. Player of the Match Agnes Briscoe worked tirelessly throughout, as did Elis Halil whose defending from the front was critical in thwarting Bedford’s advances.

12 minutes from time a long through ball found a Bedford forward free on the edge of the D and she finished with a thunderous forehand to make it 1-1.

Both teams went searching for a winner and Annie Wade-Jones in the Loughts goal had to be at her brilliant best to keep the score level with a superb save late on.

A great point for Loughts W2s to end the first half of the season and extend their unbeaten run to five games. They return in early January away at Letchworth W1s.
