Old Loughts M2s were disappointed to draw 2-2 with University of East Anglia after controlling the majority of the match but, once again, being unable to convert their own chances and conceding against short corners.
Loughts started confidently and had a number of early attempts on goal with Matt Lewis and James O’Malley-Kumar both close to scoring. At the back Will Smith and Ian Swallow, playing his final game for the club after 17 years at the club, tidied up the few threats from UEA who seemed content to sit back and attack on the break.
Loughts finally found the net towards the end of the first half. Jamie Askam popped up at the back post to knock in a good cross from the right.
UEA changed tactics at the start of the second half and after some sustained pressure were awarded their first penalty corner. The low shot squirmed through Loughts legs and into the goal. It was a wake up call for Loughts who were awarded a number of penalty corners themselves and Mitch Jones hit a good low shot from the right of the D which beat the UEA keeper.
Loughts continued to press and it looked as if they would play out the match at 2-1. It was not to be. Two further corners were conceded late into the match and with two minutes to play UEA equalised. Loughts pushed forward again and Harry Kempe had one last chance as the whistle sounded but the shot was blocked and the points shared.
Next week Loughts travel to Harleston Magpies.
