After an impressive win for the men’s 5s christening the new pitch it was the turn of the M2’s who did not disappoint.
A team of new recruits and returning Colts playing together for only the second league match had a shaky start conceding to a Steve Jackson goal after 15 minutes but responded well. Bolstered by the leadership and vision of the team’s senior statesmen, Loughts equalised on 25 with a well taken goal from Ollie Hinton who impressed throughout.
Cambridge South (who were promoted with Loughts last season) continued to play well and were rewarded with a second goal just before half time with a well taken strike from Willow Mandil who proved a threat up front throughout the half.
Jamie Askam’s half time talk clearly was astute. In the second half Loughts played with a lot more composure passing the ball into space rather than chasing and dribbling. Captain Will Smith, Will Jamieson and Jacob Jayaraj impressed at the back and Gabriel Inch and Harry Kempe dominated the midfield.
Richard Hartley-Shah scored a well taken goal on 50 minutes and shortly afterwards stepped up to score from the spot to make it 3-2 to Loughts.
Well done to both teams in what proved to be an entertaining fixture.
Next week Loughts are away at Cambridge University and then play Cambridge City at home. There seems to be a theme!
