Icy hands weather for this early away game v Chelmsford 6s but at least the anticipated heavy rain did not materialise.
Chelmsford were a pleasant team to play and worked well as a team. Loughts were just too strong for them on this occasion though.
Generally we worked like a well-oiled machine, with flashes of brilliance here and there, especially from Poppy. Out on a rare release from school she was in fine goal scoring form, popping in a total of 4 and thereby winning our MoM of the day. Meanwhile, Lara continued her steady accumulation of goals by scoring our other 2 (though I'm not sure "steady" is the right adjective for someone who moves at such supersonic speeds).
Since we worked on "first touches" at training this week I will mention a rather splendid example of this, in triplicate, during the game. The ball was coming back to Tess in defence, around the half-way line. As an attacker was almost upon her, she made a first touch tap square left to me. I sensed an opportunity ahead and swept it (first touch) down into the left hand side of our attacking circle to Lara, who made what looked like a first touch deflection into the goal (I could be wrong there.) A very satisfying team interaction :)
In fact there were many examples of lovely teamwork all over the pitch and we certainly kept up a steady pressure in the opposition half of the pitch, so well done everyone.
Thanks to Jon, who once again took the time to video our game, and also to a slightly hungover Elis, back home from uni for the weekend, who came to support us from the "air" dugout. (Hope you got the essay finished.)
The hot teas were splendid, especially the vegetarian option, despite the warning that there might only be cheese sandwiches.
