W4 home v Upminster 4s 8th Feb

A fairly even but frustrating and messy game this week. There were stick and body obstructions galore, on both sides. Upminster 4s were a pleasant enough team, so the game was played in a good-hearted way, but it just wasn't a very "pretty" game to watch.

As on the first leg, Upminster were fit and speedy, giving us very little time on the ball, but we did manage to keep possession at least 50% of the time, if not more, with everyone putting in lots of effort.

There was action at both ends of the pitch, with goalies being pressed into action on a number of occasions. Unfortunately we just couldn't convert our efforts into goals. The first goal we conceded came from a well struck short corner. The second was a little unfortunate. An "interesting" defensive clearance across goal, which surprised everyone, not least a lurking Upminster attacker, who managed to deflect it into the goal - possibly in self-defence. It did give us something to smile about in the bar afterwards though ;)

Ella and Isla were close runners up for the MoM but on this occasion, Scarlet, on speedy and forceful form, came out a well-deserved winner. Well done Scarlet. I'd like also to give a mention to Katie, on her first game out with us, who played up front with great composure and maturity. A big thank you also to her dad Gary, who manfully manned the stopwatch for us.

Top marks to Lou's chilli teas. A relief this week (after last week's away version) to find, not only beef and kidney beans in it, but also some chilli :)
