This Saturday we begged and borrowed players from other teams: two from the 5s and three from the 6s. It was also Ayesha's first game back following serious injury. With so many regulars away and with a team not used to playing together, not to mention the fact that we only had 12 people, I feared we may struggle against Braintree 2s, who were 3rd from top of table.
However ...... we put on an absolutely stunning performance to hold Braintree to a 1-1 draw, so I was super pleased. Everyone worked their socks off and even our faithful supporters became a little over-excited ;)
We started fairly confidently, with some nice linked moves down the left side of the pitch, and a few essays on goal. Braintree also put us under pressure with fast breaks into our D. Abi was called into action on a number of occasions with some demon saves.
We held our own well into the first half but eventually conceded one goal, not long before half time.
The game continued at a good pace into the second and we were fairly evenly matched. Eventually, though, we got our revenge. Olivia hit a lovely long clearance out from right defence, which was picked up by Emily on the right of the pitch. She made a great pass into Susy in the D, who wasted no time in batting it into the goal. The crowd (and the players) went wild.
I could mention pretty much all the players on pitch as having a great game. The youngsters playing up did particularly well. However, our MoM this week was Mel, who was a tireless superstar at centre mid.
Really well played everyone. It may have been a draw but it felt like a win!
