A much delayed match report so I'm afraid any detail has faded in a Christmas blur. What I do remember, however, is that we played a blinder in the first half - probably our best performance to date - which left nothing more to say at half time than "More of the same please" :)
It was a really good game, with both sides competing well. In contrast to our start of season encounter with them, when we lost 0-3, we managed to keep the ball our of our defensive D for most of the time. On the rare occasion they did penetrate to get shots away, Emily, guesting for us in goal, made some strong clearances, away to the side.
Our two goals came in this first half from Katy P and Maya, both in free play. Basildon managed to slot one goal in just before half time.
Basildon came out stronger in the second half, defending the middle of the pitch in a more concentrated and organised way. We were marginally less organised, perhaps due to tiredness, and they managed to put away a short corner. Nevertheless, the game stayed pretty well balanced and hard fought, finishing in a 2-2 draw.
In a reflection of how well everyone played, there was at least one MoM vote for each player. Jemimah was a close runner up for the honour, with 4 votes, but this week, probably due to a handily coinciding 66th birthday, I topped the chart :)
Really well done everyone. It proves we can compete with the best in the division.
