What an exciting end to our U16G 2023/24 league season today! After a 2-1 win today at Upminster we finished second in the league behind Bishops Stortford, which means we will be in the cup section at finals day on 3rd March, playing against top 2 teams from other East leagues.
And what a win it was today! We had a team of 9 players, against an Upminster side with 2 substitutes, who we had lost against in a cup match 2 weeks ago.
Our first goal created by Keira and scored by Lara gave us a one goal lead going into the second half. The second half started well with another goal - an incredible run by Tara from our own half passed to Lara to finish. Upminster got a goal back and we started to wonder if we would be able to hold them back with legs getting tired. We conceded a penalty flick late in the second half, saved by Abi, with more short corners to follow against us.
Every single Old Loughts girl on the pitch gave 100% and showed team work at its best, defending short corner after short corner and using the extra space on the pitch to create chances. They were brave, committed and ran themselves ragged. Man of the match today goes to every player on the pitch – Abi, Anna, Amber, Anabel, Tara, Lara, Keira, Amelia, Isla.
