Old Loughtonians W1s 3 - Upminster W1s 0
Despite the monsoon conditions on Wednesday evening at Luxborough Lane, Old Loughtonians Women’s 1s produced an excellent performance to take them clear at the top of the East Area Premier Division with a 3-0 win over Upminster W1s. The weather made it almost impossible to play with any fluency but as the first half progressed Loughts took charge and won multiple penalty corners although the conditions impacted the ball speed to such an extent it became hard to execute any of the planned routines.
After the break Loughts continued to drive forward with Player of the Match Adele Sammons at the heart of their ascendancy. Stevie Southall almost made it 3 goals in successive games when her penalty corner strike came back off the far post. Unsurprisingly it was Sammons who broke the deadlock on 50 minutes with an unerring finish from another Loughts penalty corner. Adele grabbed her second of the game in similar fashion with only 8 minutes remaining. In-between Adele’s goals skipper for the day Chantelle Fernandes pounced to strike the ball home after a brilliant run from India Blake along the baseline created the opportunity.

On Saturday Old Loughtonians Women’s 1s made it four 3-0 wins in the last five games away at Letchworth W1s to maintain their position at the top of the table after their midweek win against Upminster. It was a game of defence vs attack from the start as Loughts peppered the Letchworth D with waves of attacks. The Letchworth keeper was in excellent form as she repelled everything that Loughts tried to break the deadlock. On 20 minutes Old Loughts found the breakthrough as they won another penalty corner and Stevie Southall’s slapped strike found Chelsey Toms on the far post who deflected the ball home.
Chances came and went throughout the rest of the first half and into the second period as Chantelle Fernandes and Siobhan Daley both went close to extending Loughts lead. Eventually the second goal arrived with five minutes remaining as Chloe Menear’s penalty corner strike was neatly turned home by Emily Holmes. Player of the Match India Blake supported by Tribe Bars made it 3-0 in the final minutes with the goal of the day as a sweeping move featuring Tasha Patient and Faye Holmes gave India a simple finish from close range.
Old Loughts now have a week off before resuming their season at Broxbourne on December 3rd.
The W2s were away against Stevenage 1s and drew 2-2 with Georgia Dawes and Anya Pitt on the scoresheet. The W3s are now one of 5 teams on 16 points at the top of the league after a 2-0 win against Redbridge & Ilford W1s. Korobi Sen opened the scoring and Clementine Jamieson scored the second from a short corner. Special mention to both keepers. The R&I keeper kept out a number of shots to limit the result to 2-0 and Sophie Kiely in the Loughts goal made one particular excellent save from the R&I number 9.
The W4s were unlucky to lose 1-2 after the long trip to play Southend & Benfleet 3s. Jill Bowyer scored for Loughts. The W5s left it late against Maldon 3s but won 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Lara Williams. .
